Who Are We?
We are residents of Maui, committed to helping families in our communities who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19.
Our goal is to buy families $100 of healthy food as a thank you for being hard working neighbors and to let them know we care.
Our free food service will be offered three possible ways:
Option 1: Hawaiian Moons
This option supports Kihei's small local natural food store, Hawaiian Moons. They have generously offered discounts to support our project. Families can shop for free food at their convenience using our gift card.
Option 2: If transportation is not available to the family, we may be able to have a volunteer deliver the groceries from Hawaiian Moons to the family's doorstep at a mutually agreed upon time.
Option 3: We are working to expand by partnering with local food stores on other islands. We will keep you informed of our progress on social media.
How did we begin?
Our idea originated in one family, around the dinner table, talking about the effects of COVID19 on our community. We reached out to friends and got enthusiasm and matching donations to create the project. Our intrepid overseer and organizer, Gary Marks, is a father of three, and a Maui community member for over 20 years. We are dedicated to letting families in need know their neighbors and their community care, and that we are all going to get through this if we help each other along the way.
Donations from the community are ongoing. Every donation, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated, and the money is used wisely.
All volunteers are working for free.
Embracing the World is helping us for free, and has donated to the cause.
Therefore, 100% of donations are used to buy food for unemployed families.
We will continue this program until all our donated money is spent.
